NFL Week 1 Kickoff (Pt. 1)
Top storylines for all 32 teams going into week 1.

It's September, the leaves are starting to fall, the air begins to cool, you may be starting to get excited for Halloween and even a little hungry thinking about Thanksgiving. Lets be honest here, it's about football. From backyard tosses to couch surfing on Sundays. Florida Sports Report is here to fire the cannons and kick off week 1 with a bang. To leave no stone unturned, I go over EVERY week 1 matchup, and a top storyline (or 2 or 3) for each NFL team. Now enough of my intro, lets get into it.
New England Patriots @ Seattle Seahawks Wednesday - September 9th 2026 - NBC - 8:20PM est Seattle, Washington
Super Bowl rematch right out of the gate leaves NFL fans chomping at the bit. Has New England done enough to shake off the abysmal performance last February? Or has Seattle built a culture that becomes a perennial contender? Lets take a dive in each teams storyline to watch.
New England Patriots - The Patriots have added A.J. Brown during the off-season to offset the departure of Diggs. Brown has attained 1000 yards in 6 of his 7 NFL seasons. Brown along with Romeo Doubs signed in the off-season look to build on the 4th ranked offense in Passing ypg. The caveat is this, can the o-line protect Maye better than they did in the Super Bowl? Will Campbell will look to shake off the super bowl performance and give Maye time to hit his receivers.
Seattle Seahawks - The #1 ranked defense in points look for the same outcome as they had in the super bowl, complete dominance on the defensive side of the ball. Seattle lost a few key players on their super bowl run in Kenneth Walker, Boye Mafe as well as 2 corners in Riq Woolen and Coby Bryant. Seattle looks to replace the production of Walker with 1st round draft pick Jadarian Price, who's been touted as having a solid training camp and will have a huge opportunity week one to prove the franchise right in their pick.
San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Rams Thursday September 10th 2026 - 8:35PM, Netflix East Melbourne, Victoria (Australia)
San Francisco 49ers - The 10th ranked offensive line according to PFF goes up against a revamped Rams defensive front. Watch for how well the line protects Brock Purdy and keeps the defense on their toes. The 49ers have also added future Hall of Famer Mike Evans, longtime Buccaneer to give Purdy another option. 2nd round draft pick De'Zhaun Stribling looks to make his professional debut, a big physical receiver with good hands and ability to go over the top of shorter corners.
Los Angeles Rams - Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season and possibly best year of his career. Entering his age 38 season, how does he repeat the success he's had in LA. With an absurd 46 TDs to 8 INTs, I look for Stafford to take a minimal step back in production. LA also has added perennial All Pro Myles Garrett, as well as Aaron Donald retruning from reitrement. Donald is questionable for week 1 but I am looking at Garrett to see how he performs on a franchise looking to win imeddiately, especially a divisional opponent and how they attempt to contain him. Kyren Williams is coming off yet another phenomenal season, with 3 years straight of 10+ Rushing TDs, and 1000 yards, I look for the Rams to feed the rock yet again to set the tone in the opener.
Chicago Bears @ Carolina Panthers Sunday September 13th, 1pm - Fox Charlotte, North Carolina
Chicago Bears - The Bears finished 10th in Passing YPG last year, with Caleb Williams making incremental improvements in TDs, sacks allowed, and yards. PFF has the Bears ranked 5th in offensive line, giving Williams the time needed to make throws and the holes for backs to do damage. The Bears finished 11 - 6 but look to make improvements on the defensive side of the ball, allowing the 6th most Rushing YPG, 4th most Total YPG, and 10th in Total Pts allowed per game. Chicago was ranked 1 in Defensive INTs with 23. Chicago added Safety Dillon Thieneman in the first round and will be starting at SS for week 1. FS Coby Bryant was signed away from the Seahawks, but unfortunately will be shut down for an extended period of time due to a knee injury and allows some younger guys to step up. The Bears have multiple injuries at safety and corner and I look to see how they fare with back ups against the Panther receivers.
Carolina Panthers - Bryce Young is coming off his best season to date, while no stat lines pops off the chart, he has made improvements in just every statistical category, year over year. The Panthers, a middle of the road team defensively, leave much to be desire on offense, ranking 7th worst in offensive Passing YPG. The Panthers will also be thin on the offensive line due to injuries leading up to week 1, both starting tackles Ikem Ekwonu LT and Tyler Morton RT will be out for the matchup. Both OT are graded at least 80+ in both run and pass coverage according to theanalyst.com. The Panthers ranked 3rd worst in Rushing TDs. I'll be looking at the Panthers to mix in the run a lot to take some pressure off Young.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Cincinnati Bengals Sunday - September 13th - 1pm - Fox Cincinnati, Ohio
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - The Buccaneers have some new options on the defensive side of the ball, including Rueben Bain Jr, Alex Anzalone, and the return of Sean Murphy-Bunting. On offense, Baker Mayfield looks to revisit his 2024 performance and he'll have to do it without longtime Buccaneer, Mike Evans. Todd Bowles may be under the microscope as the defense grossly underperformed ranking 6th worst in Pass YPG. I will be watching for matchups with the Buccaneer D-line against the Bengal offensive line. There are a lot of questions for both teams in the trenches.
Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals, like Bucs have some improvements to be made on defense, the 7th worst Pass YPG. Be on the lookout for Tampa to attack this secondary and apply pressure, I will be watching how Cincinnati responds. Cincinnati has made a huge roster move on the defensive front by adding long time Giant, Defensive Tackle Dexter Lawrence. Lawrence bolsters a weak D-line and defense that has underperformed. 2025 1st Round draft pick Shemar Stewart enters his 2nd year, after only 1 sack in '25 can he do enough to prove the Front Offices' choice correct? Joe Burrow is starting off the year healthy with the dangerous Tee Higgins and Ja'marr Chase both healthy. The Bengals ranked 5th worst in Interceptions given away last year (17), only 5 of which were from Burrow, I look for improvements in this category if Burrow can stay healthy and standing in the pocket.
New Orleans Saints @ Detroit Lions Sunday - September 13th - 1pm - Fox Detroit, Michigan
New Orleans Saints - Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough enter their second season together as Head Coach and QB respectively. New Orleans provided something to be hopeful for, going 4-1 down the stretch with 2 of those wins coming from divisional opponents. The Saints held teams to 20 points or less in 4 of the last 5 games in that stretch. The Saints ranked 9th in total Defensive YPG and 4th in Pass YPG. Kool-Aid Mckinistry had a break out season in '25, securing 3 INTs and 17 Passes defensed (6th in NFL). The New Orleans young secondary is very good and expect them to play even better with familiarity. Look for the Saints to dare the Lions into passing the ball. Alvin Kamara is questionable for Sundays game, look for Travis Etienne Jr. to get a lot of touches week 1 both catching and hand offs.
Detroit Lions - The lions spent 3 of their first 4 draft picks on defense, looking to get back to the level of dominance they reached once under head coach Dan Campbell. Detroit added some secondary help in Christian Izien in free agency, but being 2nd on the depth chart for the nickel corner spot, did Detroit do enough to improve on that side of the ball? Keith Abney II the 5th Rd pick is expected to start week 1. The Saints WR core is young and unproven, Detroit could make a statement but locking the young unit down. I expect Detroit to be given an run for their money in this matchup, and to not overlook the Saints.
Buffalo Bills @ Houston Texans Sunday September 13th, 1pm - CBS Houston, Texas
Buffalo Bills - Buffalo is about to experience life after Sean Mcdermott, with Joe Brady entering the mix. Brady, has been with the team since 2022 and his focus is the offensive side of the ball. D.J. Moore, former Bear and Panther WR signed in the off season to Buffalo. Moore has over 8000 career receiving yards, 41 TDs, and a career 13.5 avg per catch, look to Josh Allen being equipped with quite possible the most explosive weapon of his career. 2 of Buffalos WRs, Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir for Buffalo are reported as questionable with reports for Shakir being "optimistic" and Coleman appearing in practice Tuesday. The Bills have every offensive weapons one could want, a couple quality RBs in backfield, dependable TE, and explosive WRs. The Bills want to control possession, score points, not turn ball over, and hold their offense. C.J. Gardner Johnson was signed in off season for the Bills and could turn into one of the better under the radar signings. Gardner-Johnson brings a huge potential upside, in 8 NFL Seasons, he's produced 20 INT, 7 Sacks, 3 FF, 1 FR, and one Defensive TD. He brings a bit of an X-Factor element to a defense, not to mention he's going up against his former team, I'd keep an eye out for him.
Houston Texans - Houston is in position to take a leap forward, with a quality defense and some offensive weapons, the question lies with Stroud. C.J. Stroud has had an effective NFL career throughout this point, but has yet to reach the statistical efficiency he attained in his rookie year.The Texans were tied for 2nd lowest sacks allowed in 2026, indicating Stroud has time to make throws and a dependable run game to take some of the pressure of the QB. Houston operates with a 2 man RB system, showcasing David Montgomery and Woody Marks which have both shown to be successful. Houston ranked 2nd in '25 with allowing a minuscule 17.4ppg. The Texans are elite in numerous Defensive category, if Stroud can step up, without trying to force the issue, this team could be a big threat.
Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts Sunday September 13th, 1pm - CBS Indianapolis, Indiana
Baltimore Ravens - A revamped defense, with addition of Trey Hendrickson from the Bengals and return of veteran Calais Campbell on the D-line. Zay Flowers has cemented himself as the #1 receiver but Mark Andrews has taken a step back in his 8th season as a TE. Can Lamar Jackson use the weapons around him to overcome the Colts and find postseason success? In this matchup I will be looking at the Ravens defense to see if they can slow down Jonathan Taylor.
Indianapolis Colts - A tale of 2 halves for the Colts. Ripping off win after win just to see the starting QB fall to injury and Jonathan Taylor take a step back in the final few games. Daniel Jones is entering the year healthy and Jonathan Taylor is arguably the best RB in the league. The Colts added Sauce Gardner last season, who is questionable for week 1 but shall be a huge boost for the defense, in his return. I'll also be watching how effective the Colts Offensive line protects Jones week 1.
Cleveland Browns @ Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday September 13th, 1pm - CBS Jacksonville, Florida
Cleveland Browns - Deshaun Watson will be starting week one as Shedeur Sanders sits on the bench, many were confused by this decision, myself included. The Browns were a dismal 31st in the NFL in Pass YPG so they really couldn't have been much worse.The reality is I think most would argue Sanders has the potential to be an effective NFL QB, and being on the bench, behind a veteran is his best opportunity to get better, so this move does have some value long term for the franchise. Week 1 also is Jared Verses' Cleveland Brown debut after the blockbuster trade during the off season for Myles Garrett.
